The Governor’s Office for Children (GOC) is the HQ of Maryland's efforts to improve the well-being of all kids and end child poverty in the state.
Through partnerships across government, community, and the private sector, the GOC takes on the key issues impacting Maryland children. GOC works as a force multiplier -- expanding the reach and impact of the state’s investment in children and families, and making Maryland's anti-poverty work is targeted first and foremost to neighborhoods that need it most. We're strengthening how government works in support of young people by connecting agencies to communities, holding government systems accountable, and ensuring public programs actually serve the people they’re meant to support.
The GOC administers the ENOUGH Initiative –
a first-in-the-nation effort to reduce the number of children living in poverty through community-led, government-supported solutions.
The initiative addresses the root causes of poverty in specific neighborhoods that have been historically left behind and impacted by barriers to economic mobility. Driven by data, residents’ lived experiences and cross-sector collaboration, this grant initiative supports community-led organizations across every region of Maryland to improve access to quality healthcare, good schools, good jobs and safe neighborhoods so that more children and families can prosper.
The GOC's work includes
increasing Marylanders’ access to benefits ,
improving the delivery of state resources into Community Schools,
working to address the biggest challenges facing young men and boys in Maryland, and
leveraging additional state and philanthropic dollars to generate sustainable investment opportunities in high-poverty communities.
Through a whole-community, whole-government approach, the GOC is designed to do what no single agency can do alone:
align, coordinate, and maximize Maryland’s investment in children and families.
