“We’ve had enough with poverty, crime, and a system where generational challenges go unaddressed. We will help transform distressed communities into places with top schools; good jobs, safe neighborhoods, quality housing, and economic momentum. That’s the future we’re trying to build.” - Governor Wes Moore

Celebrating 150 years of racing!

The ENOUGH Initiative supports partnerships for sustainable change to strengthen families, communities, and the economy at the neighborhood level with state, local and private sector support. As Preakness celebrates 150 years of service in Maryland, The Governor's Office for Children is proud to partner with this year's festivities in recognition of its historic impact on children and families in Baltimore City.

For decades, Preakness has served as a beloved tradition of sport and community gathering, while providing opportunities of growth for our local businesses and patrons. We are honored to be the home of the Triple Crown's "second jewel", and we would like to thank Preakness for supporting the Park Heights community, understanding the importance of ENOUGH, and recognizing that eradicating child poverty should be a priority for all of us.

Special thank you to our friends at Park Heights Renaissance for your leadership and contribution to the Preakness Stakes and the ENOUGH Initiative. We look forward to continued partnership in building safe, thriving, and healthy communities for years to come. Together, we will create a better, stronger Maryland for all

What is ENOUGH?

Maryland’s ENOUGH Initiative aims to reduce the number of children living in poverty through community-led, government-supported solutions informed by residents’ lived experiences and expertise, data and cross-sector partnerships. This pioneering program addresses the root causes of poverty in specific neighborhoods that have been disproportionately impacted by barriers to economic mobility, so that more children and families can prosper.

ENOUGH is leading the fight against child poverty in Maryland by:

  • Providing high-quality childcare and education
  • Nurturing healthy families
  • Fostering economic security
  • Creating safe and strong communities

ENOUGH aligns with what Marylanders value most: education, job creation, and safer communities. By prioritizing community-led solutions, the ENOUGH Initiative ensures every neighborhood has the tools to succeed, making Maryland a national model for economic growth.

The Y in Central Maryland held their first meeting to gather community input on how they can address the root causes of child poverty.
"Our first meeting was a great success. The highlight was getting to know each participant through introductions guided by the Courageous Conversations framework—Place, Name, and Intention. This process created space for meaningful connection and helped us begin building a sense of community."
- Charmayne Turner, VP of Strategic Partnerships and Civic Engagement, The Y in Central Maryland
