Governor’s Office for Children Awards $19.5 Million in Statewide Grant Funding to Local Management Boards
Maryland’s Children’s Cabinet Awards Support Programs Improving Economic Opportunity for Youth and Families

ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Maryland’s Children’s Cabinet, along with the Governor’s Office for Children – a division of the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention – announced more than $19.5 million in statewide grant awards to Maryland’s Local Management Boards, which support 126 community-based programs focused on improving outcomes for Maryland’s children and their families. Prevention and youth engagement are cornerstones for both the Governor’s Office for Children and the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention. These offices seek comprehensive strategies to help young people and families realize positive outcomes, achieve greater self-sufficiency, and gain knowledge of resources available to help ensure their overall well-being.

“One of Governor Larry Hogan’s key priorities is providing support to those who address adverse childhood experiences around our state,” said Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention Executive Director, Glenn Fueston. “Traumatic experiences like abuse, neglect, and parental incarceration can increase a child’s risk of negative life outcomes, including delinquent behavior and victimization. These grant awards by the Governor’s Office for Children on behalf of the Children’s Cabinet are an investment in the children of Maryland and our collective future.”

Local Management Boards are community-based coalitions in all 23 Maryland counties and Baltimore City that bring together local child-serving agencies, child providers, clients of services, families, and other community representatives to empower local stakeholders in addressing important needs in their communities through the targeting and distribution of resources. These Boards use a Results-Based Accountability framework to identify, evaluate, and develop proposals and strategies that effectively meet local community needs and provide resources for children and families in their jurisdiction. The populations served are affected by a number of issues, including youth homelessness, food insecurity, and caregiver incarceration, as well as disconnected youth between the ages of 16 and 24 who are neither working nor attending school. Strategies identified by Local Management Boards align with and advance Governor Larry Hogan’s goal of creating a safer and more economically secure Maryland.
